A new report reveals 47% of Americans plan to purchase an electric vehicle (EV) within the next five years.
Conducted by Verra Mobility with 2,000 participants aged 25 and older, the survey highlights a growing interest in EVs despite concerns about charging infrastructure and costs.
Key findings include:
- 21% plan to buy an EV within 1-2 years.
- 51% would purchase today if cost weren’t a factor.
- Range anxiety remains a major concern, cited by 46% of respondents.
Notably, 70% of participants would consider renting an EV before buying, and 63% believe maintenance costs for EVs are higher than gas-powered cars. Verra Mobility emphasizes a cautious yet steady shift toward EV adoption, as 48% of municipal leaders expect EVs to dominate personal vehicles within a decade.
