The Lion Electric Company has achieved final certification for its LionBattery HD, a lithium-ion battery pack designed for heavy-duty trucks.
This 105 kWh proprietary battery pack, now meeting stringent industry standards, will power the Lion8 Tractor, an all-electric Class 8 commercial truck unveiled at the Advanced Clean Transportation Expo in May 2024.
Lion conducted rigorous testing with third-party partners to ensure the battery’s compliance with top safety regulations. The LionBattery HD certification follows the December 2023 certification of the LionBattery MD for medium-duty trucks and school buses.
“Developing state-of-the-art batteries like the LionBattery HD showcases our commitment to innovation, safety, and reliability,” said Marc Bedard, CEO of Lion Electric. With these milestones, Lion will now focus on optimizing battery integration to enhance production efficiency.
Lion’s battery production facility, with a capacity of 1.7 gigawatt hours annually, can power 5,000 commercial vehicles per year, reinforcing Lion’s leadership in North America’s electric transportation sector.
