GM, Ford Lead U.S. Auto Sales in 2024; Toyota, Honda, Hyundai See Gains

General Motors and Ford Motor reported their best U.S. vehicle sales since 2019, signaling recovery from pandemic-related disruptions.

GM sold over 2.7 million vehicles in 2024, a 4.3% increase, while Ford reached 2.08 million units, up from under 2 million in 2023.

Moreover, GM maintained its top-selling automaker status, driven by growth across its U.S. brands and a 50% increase in electric vehicle (EV) sales, totaling 114,400 units. Ford reported a 38.3% rise in electrified vehicle sales, representing 13.7% of its annual total.

Other automakers also saw gains:

  • Toyota: 2.3 million vehicles sold (+3.7%).
  • Honda: 1.4 million vehicles sold (+8.8%).
  • Hyundai: 836,800 vehicles sold (+4%, record high).
  • Kia: 796,488 vehicles sold (+1.8%, record high).

The U.S. auto industry achieved its best sales year since 2019, with nearly 16 million units sold.
