Hyundai and Kia are recalling over 208,000 electric vehicles due to a defect in the charging control unit that can cause loss of power, increasing crash risks.
The recall affects models including the 2022-2024 Hyundai Ioniq 5, 2023-2025 Ioniq 6, Genesis GV60, GV70, G80, and nearly 63,000 Kia EV6 vehicles from 2022-2024.
News reports state that the issue stems from a damaged transistor in the control unit, which prevents the 12-volt battery from charging. Dealers will inspect and replace the control unit and fuse as needed, alongside a software update. Vehicles previously recalled for this issue will require another dealer visit.
Owners will be notified by mail starting in December and January.
