According to multiple news reports, Stellantis plans to shut down its Arizona Proving Grounds by the end of 2024, marking another cost-cutting measure under CEO Carlos Tavares.
The 4,000-acre site, located between Phoenix and Las Vegas, has been used for vehicle testing since Stellantis (formerly Chrysler) acquired it from Ford in 2007.
The automaker confirmed the closure, citing ongoing real estate evaluations and efforts to optimize its operations for future competitiveness. Stellantis will begin using Toyota’s Arizona proving facility next year.
Employees at the Arizona site will be offered relocation options, severance packages, or two years of pay and benefits if placed on indefinite layoff. For more information, visit Stellantis.
