Anita Millican, the first woman licensed as an IndyCar mechanic in 1980 and the first female pit crew member, is honored in a new children’s book, “The Trouble with Howard.”
Written by racing veteran Lee Anne Patterson and illustrated by Roger Warrick, the book recounts the story of Anita, her husband Howard, and their pet skunk, Trouble.
The Millicans, known for their innovative contributions to IndyCar racing, famously rescued and raised Trouble at the racetrack. The book captures their unique journey, emphasizing themes of sportsmanship and life at the track.
“The Trouble with Howard” is a 44-page hardcover, recommended for Grades 1 and up, available for $18.50 at www.TheTroublewithHoward.com. The book also includes a brief bio of the Millicans and Trouble, aiming to inspire future racers.
