May Mobility, a leader in autonomous vehicle (AV) technology, has announced the launch of the Detroit Automated Driving Systems (ADS) pilot in partnership with the City of Detroit’s Office of Mobility Innovation (OMI) and the Michigan Mobility Collaborative (MMC).
The “Accessibili-D” service, starting June 20, aims to improve mobility for Detroit residents aged 62 and older or those with disabilities.
The service will deploy three AVs, including two wheelchair-accessible vehicles, offering free rides across 68 stops in downtown Detroit. Operating six days a week, the service helps participants access healthcare, shopping, jobs, and social activities. Riders can book via the Accessibili-D app or by calling (734) 209-3408.
“Many Detroiters face mobility challenges due to cost or physical limitations,” said Edwin Olson, CEO of May Mobility. “We’re excited to demonstrate how our technology can assist.”
This pilot, backed by a $2.4 million contract, will run through 2026, with plans for future expansion based on rider feedback.
